In this interactive workshop, participants will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of REBT’s theory of emotional and behavioral disturbance. Techniques for identifying and restructuring irrational beliefs will be taught, as well as generating homework assignments to reinforce session content. Strategies for motivating clients to agree on the goals and tasks of therapy will also be discussed. A live demonstration with a volunteer will bring the theory and its applications to light.
- Explain the RE & CBT theory of emotional disturbance and change
- Apply the ABC model to a large variety of clinical issues
- Identify and restructure clients’ maladaptive beliefs
- Construct and teach clients how to develop new adaptive beliefs, emotions, and behaviors
- Develop and apply homework protocols
1:30 – 3:00 – Introduction to RE & CBT’s theory of emotional and behavioral disturbance; core irrational beliefs (process and content); strategies for cognitive restructuring; development of full rational alternative beliefs and consequential healthy emotions and adaptive behaviors; cognitive, emotive, and behavioral homework assignments
3:00 – 4:30 – Live Demonstration & Discussion
